Late 19th century Italian(Venetian) Handblown ‘Chalcedony’ Glass Vase. Attb. to Lorenzo Radi(1803-1847)

Fusing multiple colors of opaque glass with mineral oxides, artists imitate beautiful natural stone colors and patterns to create decorative handblown glass shapes. Originally developed in antiquity, the process was rediscovered in the 15th century in Murano, Italy. ‘Cacedonio” glass was once again revived in the mid 1800’s by Lorenzo Radi with Salviati & Co.
