19th Century Japanese Buddhist Traveling Shrine(Zushi) with a Standing Figure in Carved, Gilt and Lacquered Wood.

Within in the case is the Bosatsu Sho-Kannon representing mercy. The Kannon typically holds a lotus flower in the left hand (now absent) and a raised right palm in the semui-in mudra, displaying the power of tranquillity and the absence of fear.
